Light Mechanic

The Light Equipment Mechanic is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all machinery, equipment, vehicles, and tools used by the golf course maintenance department.

  • Performs routine scheduled equipment servicing.
  • Repairs broken and inoperable equipment.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with equipment.
  • Performs body repair work, painting of equipment and arc and gas welding.
  • Repairs equipment tires.
  • Responsible for keeping mechanic work area in a clean and safe condition on a daily basis.
  • Reports equipment failures and/or problems to head mechanic.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

Irrigator

The irrigator is responsible for keeping the irrigation system for all turf and landscaped areas

operational. This includes diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing irrigation controllers, wires, valves, pipes, and sprinkler heads.

  • Capable of operating central computer programs.
  • Reviews daily weather data and projected flow information.
  • Records daily pump and electricity usage.
  • Treats ponds for algae control.
  • Manually waters areas when needed.
  • Installs and replaces broken valve boxes, valves, pipes, and sprinkler heads.
  • Operates trencher to install irrigation pipes and drainage systems.
  • Makes requisition for irrigation parts as required.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

Equipment Operator

The Equipment Operator must be able to work with all grounds maintenance equipment to maintain turf and landscape. This includes work involving the use of large rough mowing equipment and tractors with five pull gang unit, and two or four wheel drive five gang.

  • Operates tractor with all attachments in aeration, topdressing, verti-cutting, fertilizing and vacuuming operations.
  • Operates backhoe, trencher, and skid steer loader.
  • Performs daily routine equipment checks and preventative maintenance before usage: checks oil, water, hydraulic oil to ensure proper levels are maintained, adds grease as required, checks tires for proper air pressure.
  • Washes, refuels and returns equipment to proper storage areas after each use.
  • Reports equipment failures and/or problems by filling out the Equipment Report form.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Greenskeeper/Grounds Labor

The greenskeeper performs general labor duties to setup the golf course grounds for daily play and provides the maintenance of turf and landscaped areas.

  • Maintains bunkers and conditions sand surface by hand raking.
  • Manually removes rocks, debris and weeds.
  • Relocates cups on greens, tee markers on tees, ropes and directional signs.
  • Empties trash cans and picks up trash on golf course.
  • Operates greens walk mowers.
  • Operates powered equipment to edge and clean cart paths; trims turf around trees, signs, fence lines, drainage areas, etc.
  • Prunes shrubs, groundcover and trees.
  • Performs daily routine equipment checks and preventative maintenance before usage.
  • Washes, refuels, and returns equipment to proper storage areas after each usage
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
