Café O’Lei at The Dunes Restaurant

Café O'Lei at The Dunes

It’s hard to find good food at a golf course, but The Dunes at Maui Lani is an exception. One of Maui’s leading restaurant companies, Café O’Lei, is at the helm of the popular clubhouse eatery.

Café O’Lei at The Dunes offers a great restaurant, banquet, and catering solution that is in line with Maui’s top resorts. The recruitment of talented people speaks volumes about the direction general manager Dave Gleason has taken with the Dunes at Maui Lani. The goal has always been to put the course on the Maui map as a prime contender for group business.

“We want to offer the visitor and resident an enjoyable experience at The Dunes,” Gleason says. “Whether it is on the golf course, or in our restaurant, we want our customers to have the very best available.”

We want to make it known to those who live here, or who are planning to visit Maui, that Café O’Lei at The Dunes is not only a good place to come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the golf course, but more importantly, is an outstanding resource with the capability, facilities, and capacity to provide world-class banquet, wedding, corporate group, and off-property catering solutions for groups up to 250 people at very cost-effective levels,” adds Gleason. He sums it up by saying, “Our mission is to provide Maui with an outstanding dining experience regardless of whether it is for one, four, or 250. —David H. Gleason, General Manager

Tips: Local Knowledge

A little bit of local knowledge can go a long way at The Dunes. Hole No. 4 is notorious for high scores. But don't be intimidated: It's growl is louder than its bite. Recently redesigned, No. 4 has a wider fairway and doesn't demand that you hit a very long tee shot. Rather than risk losing your ball, play a mid-iron short and right of the fairway bunker. You'll have lots of room for your second shot. Now for the good part: What locals have learned (the hard way) is that the new putting surface, affectionately called the 'Augusta green', has a false front toward the right. It'd send a short approach rolling backward to a grassy depression. So take a little extra club to play safely past the false front and leave yourself with a sure putt. Now for a word of caution: If the hole is on the front, you'll be putting downhill, and down grain. Play it smart and lag it from above the hole. You'll likely leave with a par; always a good score at The Dunes.
